Awards & Recognitions

The Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) is committed to celebrating excellence, innovation, and leadership within the oncology nursing profession. Our Awards and Recognition program honours nurses, educators, researchers, healthcare partners, and collaborators who have made significant contributions to cancer care in Papua New Guinea.

Oncology nursing is a demanding and critical profession, requiring clinical expertise, compassion, leadership, and resilience. PaNGONA recognises that outstanding performance and innovation in this field deserve acknowledgement, not only to celebrate individual achievement but also to inspire professional growth, encourage innovation, and strengthen the oncology nursing community nationwide. By highlighting achievements, the association fosters a culture of excellence and motivates nurses and partners to continually advance patient care, education, research, and advocacy in oncology.

The awards serve multiple purposes:

  • To acknowledge outstanding contributions to cancer care, oncology nursing practice, research, education, and leadership

  • To promote excellence and professionalism in the oncology nursing workforce

  • To encourage collaboration and innovation, connecting oncology nurses across regions and institutions

  • To provide recognition at local, national, and international levels, enhancing visibility and influence for recipients

PaNGONA awards are open to members, non-members, teams, and partners, ensuring that all contributions to oncology nursing and cancer care can be formally recognised. A transparent and rigorous nomination and selection process is overseen by the PaNGONA Awards Committee, ensuring fairness, credibility, and alignment with the association’s values of unity, collaboration, and growth. Winners are celebrated at national conferences, workshops, and special ceremonies, providing an opportunity for the oncology nursing community and partners to acknowledge their achievements publicly.
