PaNGONA Constitution

The Papua New Guinea Oncology Nurses Association (PaNGONA) Constitution is the foundational document that governs the operations, structure, and objectives of the Association. It provides a formal framework for PaNGONA as a professional body representing oncology nurses and allied health professionals committed to improving cancer care and nursing practice across Papua New Guinea.

The Constitution defines the Association’s vision, mission, objectives, and core values — emphasizing unity, collaboration, and growth — and outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Executive Committee, Advisory Board, Regional Coordinators, and Special Interest Groups. It also provides guidance on membership categories, ethics, governance, financial management, leadership succession, and the conduct of meetings and annual conferences, ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusive participation at all levels.

In addition, the Constitution establishes the framework for committees and operational structures, including Communication, Research, Training & Education, Fundraising & Projects, and Programs & Events. It recognizes regional groups across Southern, Momase, Highlands, and New Guinea Islands regions, allowing equitable representation and coordination of oncology nursing activities nationwide.

Formally approved in 2024, the Constitution supports PaNGONA’s mission “to connect, unite, and empower cancer nurses through education, research, and leadership to treat, reduce, and control cancer in Papua New Guinea.” It provides the legal and operational basis for delivering professional development programs, advocacy initiatives, community awareness campaigns, and high-quality patient care.

By clearly defining governance, responsibilities, and operational procedures, the Constitution ensures that PaNGONA remains a credible, transparent, and accountable professional body, guiding the growth of oncology nursing and strengthening cancer care services throughout Papua New Guinea.
